“Everything we design should have a function in its most minimalistic and elegant way possible.” — Massimo Vignelli

José Gasparian is a visual artist, designer and photographer from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil based in San Francisco. He started doing digital work back in 2015 after graduating in Design at PUC-Rio. Since then has explored different mediums working on posters, illustrations, static and motion pieces.

With his background in Design his process is very meticulous and precise. Always starts with a theme (a “problem” in Design language) and how he can “solve” that through art. The solution might come from an ideation/exploratory phase and the output might be a combination of instances that push that idea to an extreme level. His philosophy and approach to art is simply by doing it, making mistakes and learning from them - and even using those mistakes as starting points for new bodies of work! Always striving for minimalism and elegancy.

The overall theme for his works are mostly from nature or personal observations or inner self events that he might create something out of it. His work consists on the constant search for beauty and minimalism through bold color palettes, organic movements and geometric shapes.

Heavily influenced by the light and space, minimalism and color field movements; while also looking into contemporary graphic and motion design space - his work is this constant interpolation of art and design.
His intention with his art is to invite the viewer to immerse themselves into a relaxing state being either through the looping hypnotic movements of ‘Cíclicos’ or the bold colors of ‘Aura’. It should feel as an opportunity to stop the clock on our rapid and chaotic lives.
